Ultrasound

Ultrasound imaging, also called ultrasound scanning or sonography, obtains images from inside the human body through the use of high-frequency sound waves. The reflected sound wave echoes are recorded and displayed as real-time visual images. Radiation is not used in ultrasound imaging.

Prior to your visit:
·         Our staff will contact you prior to your scheduled appointment date to confirm your upcoming visit. Be sure to inform the scheduler if you have breast implants or a personal history of breast cancer. To make your visit as quick as possible, we will make every effort to pre-register you for your visit.
·         If you are having a breast ultrasound and you have had a mammogram or breast ultrasound at another facility, bring your films and reports with you.

On the day of your visit

·         If you are having a pelvic ultrasound, please ensure that you drink 40 ounces of water and do not urinate one hour prior to your appointment.
·         If you are having an OB ultrasound or a renal (retroperitoneal) ultrasound, please ensure that you drink 24 ounces of water and do not urinate one hour prior to your appointment.
·         If you are having a barium enema or IVP, please contact your referring physician for a prescription for Nulytely or Golytely. Be sure to follow the instructions inside your prep kit and any additional instructions received from your physician. Upon the morning of your exam, do not eat or drink anything prior to your appointment.

Following your visit:
·         Our radiologists will interpret your images and send a report directly to your doctor.  Your doctor will communicate the results of your exam to you.
